S12E6 - A High Demand for High School Officials

Episode Notes
Do you crave the opportunity to be part of high school sports, even though you may not be young or athletic enough to play? In this week's episode, we present the perfect solution! I'm proud to be joined by Mr. Butch Cope, Associate Commissioner of the Kentucky High School Athletic Association, who also heads up the KHSAA's officials division. Despite the joy and gratification that typically comes from officiating high school sports, the state of Kentucky is battling an ongoing shortage of personnel to fulfill such duties. Take a seat as Mr. Cope sheds light on the primary reasons for this shortage, the challenges it has posed for high school athletics across the Commonwealth, and the steps being taken by the KHSAA to combat the shortage. He also discusses educational resources available to up and coming officials, and the all-too-often forgotten perks of serving in this capacity. Feel free to contact Butch via email with any questions you may have regarding the show's content at [email protected].
